sukkah7If one is in middle of a meal in the Sukkah one should preferably not eat/drink even Shehakol, Ha’etz or Ha’adomoh foods/drinks out of the Sukkah because since it is in middle of a meal these foods cannot be considered “Achilas Ara’iy” – a snack. (Shaar Hatziyun 29 @ SA 639:2, Piskei Tshuvos 639:12, Mikroai Kodesh 1:31, S’U Shoel Umaishiv 3:11)

Therefore, some are machmir (stringent) to avoid leaving the Sukkah during a meal with unswallowed food or drink still in one’s mouth although this is not prohibited according to halacha. (Tshuvos Vehanhagos 2:305, Piskei Tshuvos 639:12)

Hilchos Sukkah – Review

If one has the ability to build a Sukkah with a cover, or awning that protects from the rain, one is doing a Mitzvah by enabling his family to be able to fulfill the Mitzvah of eating in the Sukkah after a rainfall. (Shulchan Aruch 639:6 see Shaarei Tshuvah, Piskei Tshuvos 626:5)

If one has an awning over his Sukkah one should be careful to open the awning before laying out the S’chach because according to some poskim if the S’chach is placed down while the awning is covering the Sukkah, the Sukkah is not a Kosher Sukkah. (Shulchan Aruch w/Mishnah Brurah 626:3)
