Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni said he escaped an assassination attempt by a group of gunmen who opened fire on his car after it left a parliament sessions in the city of Tobruk on Tuesday.
One bodyguard was wounded in the attack, according to a government spokesman.
The prime minister has been running the fractured country from Tobruk after he was driven out from the capital of Tripoli by Islamist militants last year.
A faction established in Tripoli has challenged his power and claims to be the legitimate government. Lawmakers said protesters had gathered outside the parliament building before the attack, setting fire to a car nearby.
Parliamentary speaker Aqila Saleh reportedly told the prime minister to leave for his own safety. Read more at the BBC.
