avigdor-liebermanIsraeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman on Wednesday met Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, in Nairoibi, where he said that the international community had proven to be unable to respond to the global terror threat effectively, and proposed an information exchange between Middle East and African countries to counter the threats that beset both regions.

In a statement from the Foreign Ministry summarizing their meeting, Lieberman stressed the special importance of the visit to Kenya, which took place against the backdrop of the severe terrorist attacks in Kenya over the past two weeks that resulted in the deaths of dozens of innocent people and the abduction of 10 women.

Lieberman told President Kenyatta that both countries faced an axis of evil that stretches from the Middle East to West and East Africa, with ISIS in Iraq, Hamas in Gaza, Boko Haram in West Africa and Al-Shabaab in East Africa all part of a global Jihad network.

Lieberman said that as the terrorist organizations have established a single, coordinated global network that operates almost without hindrance, the international community continues to hold endless discussions on the issue that in most cases result in mere theoretical condemnations by international institutions.

He said that countries in these regions must take their fate into their own hands and not rely on outside help, as the reality in Syria, Libya and Iraq has demonstrated that the international community has not developed adequate tools to provide a quick and effective response to the horror of global terrorism threats.

In response, Lieberman proposed to Kenyatta the creation of a common mechanism to exchange information to help provide faster and more effective responses to those threats.

Lieberman told President Kenyatta that the State of Israel is a true friend of Kenya, and that Israel condemns the terror attacks that have occurred in Kenya, as well as terrorism, in general, in the strongest terms possible and stands alongside the citizens of Kenya in these difficult times.

President Kenyatta also expressed his support of Israel and the hope that that the three Israeli teenagers kidnapped a week ago would be released soon.

Leiberman said that he will push for the Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab militant groups active in Kenya to be added to the blacklist of terror organizations in accordance with Israeli law.

Additionally, the Foreign Ministry said Lieberman instructed the Israeli delegation to the UN to ensure that the abducted Israeli teenagers will be discussed at the Security Council meeting on 24 June 2014. They will also be raised in the phone conversations he continues to hold with his counterparts around the world, the statement said.
