One of Defense Minister Lieberman’s closest aides is Avi Abuchatzeira, 39, a chareidi man who was raised on Rechov Rashbam in Bnei Brak.

Avi began his political career working as an aide to Rav Benny Alon of the nationalist Moledet party, which advocates preserving Eretz Yisroel in its entirety, and later became an aide to Lieberman, who had a similar outlook. As a chareidi, Avi had a part in smoothing Lieberman’s path to the present chareidi dominated coalition.

Avi’s day begins with Daf Yomi and Shacharis. Every Thursday night he studies for hours before proceeding to the Kosel for tefillas vasikin. His father learns the whole day except four hours, which he devotes to his livelihood. He studied in Haichal Hatorah-Pressburg Yeshiva in Yerushalayim and is a devoted follower of his relative Rav Aharon Abuchatzeira, son of Rav Yaakov Abuchatzeira.

  1. Lieberman made a whole stink to become the defense minister, nearly toppling the government, and as soon as he takes over power, he turns into a leftist Liberal pacifist. Very troubling and disturbing. What happened to all the tough talk?
