Lieberman’s Personal Yeshiva Draft Law Panel

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has set up a panel of army professionals to prepare his own memorandum for a new yeshiva draft law. The panel includes army-rabbinate personnel, but no politicians.

“The draft is too important to turn into a political tool to collect votes,” Lieberman said. “That’s why I decided that the law will be formulated by the most senior professionals of the Army and Defense Ministry. They will be interested solely in the benefit of the state and Israeli public. There will be no background noise or political interference.”

UTJ and Shas politicians responded that formulation of a legally acceptable draft law is part of the coalition agreement and said they would present their own bill in the Knesset.
