Lipa Partners With Yeshiva Darchei Torah

No, it was not Lipa Schmeltzer. Same Name, though. The Long Island Power Authority has partnered with Yeshiva Darchei Torah to assist them in the construction of a new educational facility outfitted with the latest energy efficient measures and technologies that will help save the school $119,131 in annual electric costs.

LIPA Chief Operating Officer Michael D. Hervey presented Rabbi Yaakov Bender with a rebate check for the school’s participation in LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program.

“LIPA is proud to have worked in partnership with Yeshiva Darchei Torah and the many individuals who made this new energy-efficient building possible,” said Hervey. “It is imperative that we continue to work with government officials, school officials, businesses leaders and civic leaders to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and promote the important message of clean and efficient energy to the next generation.”

“I would like to thank LIPA and their partners for helping make this energy efficient yeshiva economically feasible,” said Rabbi Yaakov Bender, Dean of Yeshiva Darchei Torah. “In today’s economy where energy prices remain unsettled and every school dollar counts, this new this new building will help keep costs down and allow us to reinvest those savings in our student’s education.”
Yeshiva Darchei Torah completed construction in December on a new 183,000 square-foot private educational facility located in Far Rockaway, N.Y. LIPA worked closely with Yeshiva Darchei Torah and Energy Analysis Group to provide guidance and technical assistance to assure the energy efficient construction was eligible for $204,877 in rebates and incentives provided by LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program.

“We are excited to have reached and even exceeded our goal of designing an energy efficient building of this magnitude and would like to thank LIPA and their staff for their support and advice and for making the program run so smoothly,” said Asher Hartman, President and Founder of Energy Analysis Group.

The construction included the installation of high performance lighting, an energy management system (EMS), energy recovery ventilators (ERV) and heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) units. . These efficiency measures will reduce the company’s electric energy demand by an estimated 395 kilowatt (kW) and its electric energy usage by an estimated 627,009 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year.

Furthermore, Yeshiva Darchei Torah’s avoided emissions, over a 20-year period, will be 7,685 tons of Carbon Dioxide which is the equivalent of removing 1,280 passenger cars off the road and a saving 791,420 gallons of gas consumed.
