Livni: I’m Concerned that a Generation of Israelis Avoids Going to Shul

tel-avivTzipi Livni on Thursday condemned secular Israelis’ ignorance of Judaism, especially in the “state of Tel Aviv” as well as the religious school system’s reluctance to recognize the state of Israel.  “There are schools in Israel that refuse to conduct national matriculation exams because they refuse to recognize the state of Israel as the body testing their students,” Livni said during a Kadima conference at the Knesset. “I will be the first person to support minority rights, but the question is whether minorities have the right, due to bad political system and weak politicians, to shrug off the authority of the government and promote only that one sector of Israeli society without even trying to create common ground. This is how we now find ourselves living in separate societies, one next to the other, without a common language – some will speak Hebrew, some Arabic, others Yiddish.””Being a Jew is not something you’re told,” she continued, “it’s an inner feeling of belonging, of being moved and wanting to belong.”

“I am more concerned by the public in the Jewish state of Tel Aviv than the public in Bnei Brak – in Bnei Brak there is a closed community that guards the tradition of the same Jewish melody on Yom Kippur, chagim and Shabbat. I am concerned by the fact that this melody isn’t sounded in other parts of the nation. A generation has arisen here that avoids visiting shuls because they identify the Jewish thing as something that belongs to the chareidim. What are we going to do so that all of our children will come together?” Livni asked.

“I value Judaism studies in public schools and I would really like it if chareidim schools taught Zionism and other topics. This is what we need to fight for, without forcing any kind of lifestyle on anyone, the way I wouldn’t want anything forced on me,” she continued.

“Political parties that are supposed to have views on this topic aren’t making their voices heard, but instead they’re selling out their platforms to the monopoly of charedi politics over Judaism. This process is problematic. This conference is not a one time thing – we will affect social and political change,” she concluded.

  1. “A generation has arisen here that avoids visiting shuls because they identify the Jewish thing as something that belongs to the chareidim.”
Who has maligned and denegrated those Jews who hold fast to their traditions? Yes, Tzippy and all the other lefties!
At least now they woke up and realized that Zionisim itself is devoid of values that will keep a nation together.

  2. I personally heard Livni speak at this past year’s AIPAC Confernece to a group of Rabbis from across the country. And I quote from her: “The Jews in Bnei Brak should just move to Brooklyn”. She is the LAST person to give any kind of chizuk on our heritage.

  3. No need to teach Zionism. Judge Beinish and the rest of the self-hating Jewish judges in the secular courts in Israel are good examples of what Zionism accomplished and how Zionism can destroy a country and the Jewish religion.

  4. ““I value Judaism studies in public schools and I would really like it if chareidim schools taught Zionism and other topics. This is what we need to fight for, without forcing any kind of lifestyle on anyone, the way I wouldn’t want anything forced on me,” she continued.”

So much for someone professing to value a Jewish education. She didn’t learn Zionism is an issur d’oraisa.

    Eretz Yisroel la’Yehudim, Yisra’eilim yoivadu.

  5. Why did Matzav post a video about the IDF’s policies for protecting civilians which endangers Iraeli soldiers without any comment or criticism of the anti Torah approach?

The concept that a Palestinian civilian’s life is more important than a Jewish soldier’s life is outrageous and should be thoroughly condemned.

Livni is anti religious and these horrendous rules of engagement are products of corrupt people like her.

  6. It’s great to see the introspection that the comments above show. Not one asks us as a community how we may have done wrong, not one asks how we can work with this initiave to bring secular Jews vackinto shuls.

They all provide the same rhetoric…. it’s all their fault, we were/ are and always will be 100% correct.
