erick-salgadoLongshot Conservative Democratic mayoral candidate, Erick Salgado, spoke onTuesday night to the Rabbinical Alliance of America in New York in an effort to reach out to Orthodox Jewish voters from a standpoint of religion, faith and common values.

“We are living in a time when the values of people of faith are under sustained attack,” Mr. Salgado started off. “Whenever there is a person who believes, who wants to preserve his culture, his customs and his values, that person seems to be strange. And many of the elected officials don’t respect the different communities.. that’s the reality ” he said.

Mr. Salgado went on to counter the administration for undermining social values, in his view, by the office of the mayor.

“This is a real issue in the City of New York,” he said. And it is going “to get even worse, if one of the current candidates takes office.”

Mr. Salgado promised to give a tax credit “to any person who sends their children to study in any private institution” as a substitute to school vouchers. “Right now, because of the Blaine amendment, it is impossible to get vouchers for yeshivah parents, but with a tax credit we can get immediate relief to those who care about the children, that are willing to spend the money for their children’s education.”

Mr. Salgado also addressed the issue of metzitzah b’peh.

“This is a practice that was commanded by God. This is a practice that the Jewish community has been practicing since God told Abraham to do so. But now, we have a mayor that is saying it’s too dangerous.. My friends, it is going to get worse. If we don’t act together, if we don’t push our values, if we don’t say enough is enough, we are going to have a mayor that will prohibit a lot of things,” Mr. Salgado said.

“If I get the help that I need from the Orthodox Jewish community, we could surprise many people. Yes, I speak with an accent, but I am going to be fighting for all the common rights we have, and what we need. If you help me get elected, you will have a friend in City Hall.”

  1. It sounds like he is referring to bris itself, and if so he is majorly confused. So in all liklihood he is not supporting mbp.

If he is, then hes wrong on all counts:

“This is a practice that was commanded by God” – WRONG, Metzitza was Rabbinic, and bpeh is a suggested but not required method

“This is a practice that the Jewish community has been practicing since God told Abraham to do so” WRONG again

“But now, we have a mayor that is saying it’s too dangerous.” WRONG, every health professional says this and only a handful of daas yochid’s say otherwise.

Also see chasam sofer – Kochvei Yitzchak letter from Vienna in 1837, where he clearly says metzitza can be done differently

  2. The more he talks, the more I like him. Erick is a breath of fresh air to the Frum community here in NY. After years of perverts, lowlifes & mushchasim as our only choices, we finally have someone we can vote for with our head held high. Too bad our leaderless Mosdos/Org’s look at the fake poll numbers & only endorse whomever is in the lead regardless of the level of filth they’ve sunken to! Phech!

  3. 1. He’s a goy.
    2. his official position is that the government should not get involved.
    3. Rav elyashiv ztl who was against MbP held that we are michyuv to fight the attempts to ban it because it is truly a attack on milah.
    4. the toeivah movement was at the forefront of the attacks on Milah itself around the country including the attempted bans in Massachusetts, and San Francisco

  4. “the toeivah movement was at the forefront of the attacks on Milah itself around the country including the attempted bans in Massachusetts, and San Francisco”

Actually the exact opposite is true. The toeivah AIDS activists led the fight AGAINST banning circumcision in San Francisco, because circumcision has been proven to reduce the rate of transmission of HIV.

  5. most of the signatures for the ban came from those areas of the city.

The person who put it on the ballot Lloyd Schofield was a toevanick and first heard about the anti Bris Milah cause a a abomination “pride” parade.
