norwegian-breakaway-shipThe largest cruise ship ever to port in New York City has officially been unveiled.

The 146,000-ton ocean liner is 18 stories high and 1,063 feet long, roughly the length of more than four city blocks.

The Norwegian Breakaway features 18 decks and can accommodate 4,000 passengers.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg stopped aboard this afternoon to help inaugurate the massive ship at Pier 88.

The mayor added that it’ll be as though the passengers aboard the big ship have never left New York behind.

Atop the vessel are more water slides than any other ship and the first-ever onboard ropes course.

The Breakaway makes its maiden voyage tonight. It’s a two-day cruise to nowhere.

The ship will make weekly trips to Bermuda starting this weekend.

The Breakaway will add approximately $35 million to the local economy each year.
