Majority of Palestinians Support Rocket Fire On Israeli Civilians, According To Recent Palestinian Poll

Published on Tuesday, June 9, a poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey (PCPS) shows that only a third of Palestinians are satisfied with the results of the latest Gaza campaign and over half of Gazans want to leave.

In regards to the Palestinian attempt to oust Israel from membership in FIFA, the largest percentage believe Israel came out the winner while only close to a fifth of Palestinians believe that the Palestinian side came out on top.

The poll was conducted by the PCPS between 4 and 6 June 2015 among a sample group of 1,200 adults in 120 randomly selected locations in Gaza and Judea and Samaria. It focused on a large array of civic and political issues, domestic and international. According to the PCPS the margin of error for the poll is 3%.

Focusing on the aftermath of Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014, 63% of Palestinians are dissatisfied with Hamas achievements and support indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel. Despite that, a similar percentage supports the firing of rockets form Gaza on Israeli civilians.

Additional findings show an overall increase of pessimism towards the Hamas-Fatah reconciliation government, standing at 59%.

Interestingly, the majority of Palestinians, at 36% believe that the current framework of the U.S.-Iran nuclear agreement is bad for Arabs.

Regarding the future of the region, only 11% believe the first and most vital goal of Palestinians should be to establish a democratic political system that respects freedoms and rights.
