A man was taken into custody during Tuesday rush hour in central Brussels after claiming to have been kidnapped and fitted with an explosive belt. As it turns out, the belt was a hoax: It was filled with salt and cookies, prosecutors said.

The suspect, identified only as J.B., reportedly informed police he has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terror group, but prosecutors noted he has a history of psychiatric problems and that they could not verify any of his claims. Read more at The New York Times.
