Mandel Foundation Pledges $25 Million to New Bezalel Campus

bezalel-new-building-e1370965102266The Cleveland based Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation has pledged $25-million toward construction of a new downtown campus for Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. The gift is part of a $100 million capital campaign to develop a new 400,000 square foot building housing classrooms, studios, offices, auditoriums, an administrative area and various workshops.

The building will be located in the area know as the Russian Compound.

Mr. Mandel once told Irving Stone that he was “jealous” of him because he supported Jewish education (Mandel built the JCC in Beachwood, the Mandel School of Social Work at Case Western Reserve among other philanthropic endeavors. Mr. Stone was Mr. Hebrew Academy of Cleveland, built Telshe-STONE, supported Telshe among a myriad of other Jewish educational causes.
    I guess the Mandels feel this is a Jewish educational cause…..
