rubioSen. Marco Rubio today took on Hillary Rodham Clinton in his first words as a presidential candidate, telling top donors he is running for the Republican nomination because the 2016 race for the White House should be about the future, not the past, the AP reports.

The first-term Republican from Florida, 43, also told his most generous backers that he feels “uniquely qualified” to pitch his Republican Party as one that will defend the American Dream, the New York Times reports.

Rubio spoke on a conference call with donors before a flashy political rally set for Monday night in Miami.

Rubio, born May 28, 1971, is the junior United States Senator from Florida, serving since January 2011. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives (2007-2009).

A Cuban American native of Miami, Florida, Rubio is a graduate of the University of Florida and the University of Miami Law School. In the late 1990s, he served as a City Commissioner for West Miami and was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000, representing the 111th House district. He was elected Speaker in November 2006.

Rubio announced a run for U.S. Senate in May 2009 after incumbent Republican Mel Martinez resigned. Initially trailing by double-digits against the incumbent Republican Governor Charlie Crist, Rubio eventually surpassed him in polling for the Republican nomination. Rubio won the Republican nomination after Crist opted instead to run with no party affiliation. In a three-way split against Crist and Democratic candidate Kendrick Meek, Rubio won the general election in November 2010 with 48.9 percent of the vote. He is one of three Latinos in the Senate, along with Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Ted Cruz of Texas.

  1. Mr. Rubio – u de man !!!!!!!!!!!

Americans don’t need DELETED EMAILS, BENGHAZIGATE, DEAD DIPOLMATS, NO SECURITY, SAME DemocRATS policies. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!

  2. Some obvious policy topics that indeed Republican candidates (and even tea party conservatives like myself) need to REALISTICALLY address:

Jobs: Overall, the jobless rate is nearly back to what it was before the recession began. But if we dig deeper, the recovery looks remarkably uneven. Unemployment among black Americans—11 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014—remains higher than the overall rate at the peak of the recession and well above the rate among black Americans before the recession began. Similar disparities exist between cities and states. Progressive economists have called for new, targeted public investment in job creation, to get us to full employment. What public investments will you demand so that all of America recovers from the 2007 crash? Can there be a second stimulus for the people and communities left behind?

    Student debt

    Education

Wall Street and Washington: Last year in an op-ed for Politico, Senator Elizabeth Warren warned that a disproportionate number of people from the banking industry have been appointed to policy-making positions within the government. She singled out Citigroup in particular, noting that three of the last four Treasury secretaries, beginning with Robert Rubin, whom your husband appointed, were former Citigroup CEOs. Do you think Citigroup or Wall Street in general is overrepresented in Washington? And if so, what would you do about it?

    Pentagon Spending

Immigration: Our broken immigration reform system is not working for anyone in America.

    Iran

NATO Expansion: Do you think NATO expansion, is playing a positive role in contributing to the security and stability of East and Central Europe? If so, why?”

    Social Security

    Climate

    Campaign finance

    Drug Policy

  3. Catered dinners to follow.

His library is quick reference only.

James Bond would be a good running mate.

Good to see a new change in the mood of America. Hillary is going to be too much fun.
