Mass Retrial for Muslim Brotherhood



An Egyptian court has ordered a retrial for 37 Muslim Brotherhood members who were sentenced to death and 115 who were sentenced to life in prison last March, judicial sources tell Reuters.

Last year’s mass trial for 500 defendants was regarding attacks carried out in the southern province of Minya after two Muslim Brotherhood camps were forcedĀ­ to disperse from Cairo during protests on August 14, 2013.

The trial was widely criticized by Western governments and human rights groups. Many of the defendants were tried in absentia and the court ruled after just a few days. Read more.
