lev-lachimThe founding Lev L’Achim Asifa in 1996 was a watershed event. With the hallowed Bais Medrash of Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin as a venue the message was made loud and clear: The Gedolei Yisroel have launched an historic effort to bring the families of Israel back to Torah and have given it their highest priority.

Indeed, in Eretz Yisroel a call to arms was issued asking all Kollel yungeleit to devote an evening each week to Project DOOR-TO-DOOR learning with those who had never before experienced the beauty of Torah. The results were breathtaking. An army of thousands of volunteers began systematically knocking on doors in secular neighborhoods offering to simply spend a bit of time learning Torah. As the families welcomed their noble visitors and formed relationships with them, other programs developed to help every segment of the family advance in their acceptance of Torah u’Mitzvos.

To date, PROJECT RISHUM has enrolled tens of thousands of children in Torah schools; hundreds of schools have been initiated and hundreds more filled to capacity and beyond; Midrashot – Young Women’s walk-in torah centers have been established throughout the country helping girls to find their place in the Torah world including helping them to find suitable mates; Lev Shomea provides confidential hotlines manned by guidance professionals for Kids-at-Risk and dropouts from Torah schools; as-yet secular teens are drawn to the nationwide network of Mitchazkim centers and hundreds are transformed in to true Bnai Torah each year; Regional Lev L’Achim centers act as hubs of local activism with a full array of services including; kashering teams to render a home fit for a newly observant family, taharas hamishpacha counselors for those ignorant of the laws of family purity, placement assistance for those wishing to switch their children from public schools to Torah schools, tape / CD and book lending libraries, lecture series…and so much more.

The American Gedolim merged the long established P’eylim organization with the new Lev L’Achim to create “P’eylim / Lev L’Achim” which acts as their representatives conducting campaigns and raising the funds which make the miracles possible in Eretz Yisroel.

The annual Flatbush drive unites the Rabbanim and congregations of Flatbush in a single concerted effort to embrace Lev L’Achim and partner with them in their amazing work. Spearheaded by Yanky Arem and his team of more than 100 individual shul and summer group chairmen, the United Flatbush Breakfast for P’eylim / Lev L’Achim is an event that regularly draws more than a thousand participants for a morning of inspiration. With catering sponsored by Pomegranate, it is a culinary delight as well!

The keynote address will be given by the renowned Rabbi Yissocher Frand, Rosh Yeshiva at Yeshiva Ner Yisroel of Baltimore. Rav Frand will be joined on the dais by the legendary Rav Uri Zohar from Eretz Yisroel. Once the star of the Israeli film and TV world, Reb Uri went on to become the most famous baal teshuva in the history of modern Israel and his courageous example has paved the way for thousands to follow his lead. Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Lieff, Mara  D’Asra of the Agudah of Avenue L, will welcome the audience with divrei bracha.

Lakewood will never forget the two evenings they spent (via live satellite hookup) with Rav Chaim Kanievsky, and his illustrious brother-in-laws Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein and Rav Ezriel Auerbach. A good portion of those memorable halachic exchanges will be aired at the Flatbush event with English subtitles dubbed in on bottom to allow one and all to enjoy the majesty of those historic sessions.

  1. While some organizations seem to be devoted to making a full-time “tumul”, Lev L’Achim has consistently maintained a dignified approach to their advertising and fundraising campaigns.

Their work in Eretz Yisroel has truly changed the face of many neighborhoods and even entire cities. Every Gadol, Rav and Ben Torah in Eretz Yisroel knows this yet in America we are not bombarded with PR other than the local mailings and ads that run for a week or so, and not for months on end!

Ashreichem Lev L’Achim for what you do in Eretz Yisroel and for maintaining the standard of dignity we once associated with the top Klal Mosdos but which has begun to disappear amid the hype of recent years.

I will be there on Sunday! (and not just for the Pomegranate breakfast and Schwebel Family performance…)

  2. They are truly an amzing organization! founded by Rav Lifschitz many years ago, Yad L’Achim’s Pidyon Shvuyim work is the greatest mitzvah!
