la-fireAn early Monday morning fire in Los Angeles closed two freeways and destroyed an apartment building that was under construction. More than 250 firefighters are battling the blaze, which began at around 1:20 a.m. PT at a luxury apartment tower being built at 909 W. Temple St.

The fire could be seen for miles, visible as far away as the Hollywood Hills.

Two nearby buildings on Figueroa Street suffered damage from the fire. Sections of the 110 Freeway and the 101 southbound are shut down. “It’s huge,” said Los Angeles Fire Department Spokesman David Ortiz. The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are not known, according to Ortiz. Read more at the Los Angeles Times.
