shidduchimYou likely remember the post on our site about the launching of a new website/blog called ishadchan.blogspot.com. Yesterday we sat down with the founder of iShadchan to ask and discuss some of the basics about the iShadchan site.

Q: First and foremost how was the feed back after you first launched the site on Matzav.com?

A: I really have to give a lot of credit to Matzav! In the few days right after the article was posted, the site had over 1,000 views, with people checking out the site from all over the world (USA, Canada, UK, Belgium, Israel, Australia, Ukraine etc.)! I also received hundreds of emails inquiring about iShadchan.

Q:What made you think of the idea?

A: To be honest, being involved in shidduchim is something I really enjoy. The problem is that I really don’t know all that many people, and it’s just the same boys and girls names that keep coming up. So i decided to start an easy name sharing website in order  to branch out and share my friends names with other people and have them share their single friends with me.

Q:Where did you get the name from?

A: I think that’s a pretty obvious one! We live in an iGeneration. So i figured why not add another member to it; The iShadchan.

Q:Is there any money involved?

A: The answer to that question is 100% NO!  There is no sign up fee, and no one has to give me a percentage of the shadchunis if they make a shidduch. It’s all free. All you have to do is get involved!

Q:Who is the site made for?

A: Although it’s impossible to restrict anyone from the site, you do need permission from me on order to view any of the spreadsheets. I try to only allow access to people who are interested in making shidduchim, and not to singles or their parents so that they can  browse for names. In terms of the singles, there are no rules as to which boys and girls get posted by their friends, but it would definitely be beneficial to get the older singles posted.

Q:How is privacy protected?

A: Like I said in the previous question, viewing any of the spreadsheet can only be done with permission from the moderator. Also I only grant permission to people who have set up their own spreadsheet with their friends (see the website on how to set up a spreadsheet). This way I know that they are interested in making shidduchim. In addition, no names of singles are posted, only their initials.

Q:How do people know about the site?

A: To be honest that is really my biggest challenge. Being that there is no money involved, I don’t really have the means to advertise. So basically it’s all word of mouth/e-mail. Although, Matzav.com definitely helped word get out by posting my original article and helping launch the site!!

Q: What’s the biggest compliment you got in regards to the site?

A: When I first started the site, I didn’t bother buying the domain name iShadchan.com. I figured I would wait and see how it takes off before  investing any money. Just recently I was thinking to buy the name, but guess what? Someone bought it already! I guess that means that they have high hopes in iShadchan and they are hoping to sell me the name!

Q: Thanks for sitting down with us. Any last thought before we go?

A: Firstly, thanks again to Matzav for helping out with this. Other then that I would just like to thank everyone else who has gotten involved. Please spread the word to all your friends, start your own groups (visit the site to see how), and lets start making shidduchim! Hopefully with that zechus we’ll bring the geula closer. Oh! and don’t forget to visit http://ishadchan.blogspot.com/.

  1. Hatzlacha raba! May all of Kllal Yisroel in need of a shidduch, find their bashert with Siyata Deshmaya, ease, at the “right” time

  2. What a great site! and i hope it works out well! did anyone else realize that 2day is Tu B’av, a day mesugal for shidduchim!! lets get to work!!

  3. There is no need for this shidduch website, sending money to Amuka will do the trick and all girls will find their bashert. What, you don’t believe?

  4. Maamin: a web domain may cost only $10 a year, but if you’re not a web developer/programmer, then there’s very little dynamic content that you can achieve with it – something that’s desperately needed for a shidduchim website. To see for yourself, visit: http://www.TwiceKiTov.com

  5. Living in the iGeneration, where everything is about “i” this has got to be the most selfless and beautiful things i can think of! It gives everyone the opportunity to get involved in making shiducim, without being to time consuming. Kol Hakavod to the founder of this great idea and may you and all the shadchunim have much hatzlacha!

  6. web techie #7: That wasn’t my point. See the above article. The owner lost out on the domain name since he didn’t register it early enough. It would have only clost $10 to do so.
