bill-de-blasioNew York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, his administration threatened to be overwhelmed by a rift with rank-and-file New York Police Department officers, on Monday condemned the thousands of cops who turned their backs to him during a pair of funerals for slain police officers, the AP reports.

In his first public remarks on the officers’ protests, de Blasio said the cops’ searing rebuke was hurtful to the families of the two officers killed in an ambush last month and was an offense to the city at large.

“Those individuals who took certain actions the last two weeks, they were disrespectful to the families involved. That’s the bottom line,” de Blasio said at a news conference held at police headquarters. “I can’t understand why anyone would do such a thing in the context like that.”

  1. And coming late to the memorial of the flight memorial was not an afront to their families and the community at large. Nor was this stupid, immature handling of his personality crisis with the NYPD.
He gets a D in his handling of the office so far! “D” is for Dinkins an deBlasio – two peas of the same pod!
Oh dear, NYC is in trouble! Another 1,000 “D”ays of this “D”eranged in”D”ividual at the helm!

  2. “I can’t understand why anyone would do such a thing in the context like that.”
And the public can’t understand why the Mayor of a city would not stand behind his police force and not comment on a case before a jury.

  3. Nu, so what are you going to do about it? You are their boss. Why don’t you fire those ingrates? If I tried that shtick where I work, I would be fired on the spot.

  4. Disrespectful to the families?? How about setting a climate that allowed these cops to be shot and lose their lives – is that not disrespectful to these families, Mr. Mayor????!!
