Singer Mordechai Ben David surprised Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin on Monday when they visited him in prison. Family and friends gathered to celebrate the wedding of Yehuda Zaltzman and Mushka Rubashkin, but absent was the father of the kallah, R’ Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, the former kosher meat executive and founder of the Jewish community in Postville, Iowa.
Mordechai Ben David along with the Shira Choir went to visit Sholom Mordechai after they heard that his daughter was being married off without her father by her side. They went to uplift his spirits during this trying time.
“You can see the emunah in Sholom Mordechai,” MBD said. “We sang, we talked, we even danced for a while. We came to reinforce and strenghthen him even more.”
A request to have Rubashkin released from prison to attend his daughter’s wedding was denied.
