mccainNewly released emails related to the 2012 Benghazi attacks point to an “obvious cover-up,” and Congress needs to appoint a select committee to investigate the issue in light of White House involvement in crafting a false narrative about the attack, Sen. John McCain said.

“It is not only now the needless and tragic deaths of four Americans, but it is an obvious cover-up by the White House,” McCain told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” Thursday.

McCain said lawmakers who questioned the White House narrative about the attacks have been “calling for a long time for a select committee of both houses that can get to the bottom of this.”

After the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked, then-National Security Adviser Susan Rice made appearances on Sunday talk shows to explain the incident. She said the attack was based on a spontaneous demonstration in response to a video.

The explanation by the White House was fueled by an effort to re-elect President Barack Obama, McCain said. Rice’s statements were “not based on any fact,” the senator said.

Emails obtained by government watchdog group Judicial Watch Tuesday indicated White House officials were involved in creating the talking points for Rice to portray the attack as “rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.”

  1. Although it’s tought for me to admit this, Senator McCain is spot on with this Benghazi-gate coverup and overt lying from the Obama Administration.

  2. Can you just imagine, if the shoe was on the other foot? If Americans got murdered while we had a Republican President? There would be round the clock hearings by those angry white Democrats. There would be calls for impeachment & arrest. The Democrats don’t care about American lives. They only care about staying in their cushy do nothing jobs funded by the stupid dumb taxpayer.

  3. Faris, your memory and imagination fall short. Not too long ago the shoe was on the other foot. Have you forgotten the deaths of the Marines in Beirut, 1983. No Republicans (or Democrats for that matter) were whining for Reagan’s impeachment and arrest despite that administration’s deadly incompetence and the massive loss of American lives. It was not an issue in Reagan’s 1984 re-election. Look it up. The Benghazi controversy only exists as a tool to impede Clinton’s potential run for the White House.

“The Beirut Barracks Bombings (October 23, 1983, in Beirut, Lebanon) occurred during the Lebanese Civil War when two truck bombs struck separate buildings housing United States and French military forces—members of the Multinational Force (MNF) in Lebanon—killing 299 American and French servicemen. An obscure group calling itself ‘Islamic Jihad’ claimed responsibility for the bombings.[1]
Suicide bombers detonated each of the truck bombs. In the attack on the building serving as a barracks for the 1st Battalion 8th Marines (Battalion Landing Team – BLT 1/8), the death toll was 241 American servicemen: 220 Marines, 18 sailors and three soldiers, making this incident the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States Marine Corps since World War II’s Battle of Iwo Jima, the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States military since the first day of the Vietnam War’s Tet Offensive, and the deadliest single attack on Americans overseas since World War II.[2] Another 128 Americans were wounded in the blast. Thirteen later died of their injuries, and they are numbered among the total number who died.[3] An elderly Lebanese man, a custodian/vendor who was known to work and sleep in his concession stand next to the building, was also killed in the first blast.[4][5][6] The explosives used were later estimated to be equivalent to as much as 9,525 kg (21,000 pounds) of TNT.” – wikipedia
