mccainSenator John McCain today blasted President Barack Obama and other top administration officials for failing to intervene on behalf of rebels in Syria, calling it “one of the most shameful chapters in American history.”

In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” the Arizona Republican called U.S. inaction in Syria “disgraceful” and a failure to hit back at Iranian influence in the Middle East.

Obama overruled Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other top advisors last year when he ruled out U.S attempts to arm Syrian rebels, it was revealed last week. Republicans have slammed Obama for the move, saying U.S. intervention could have already led to the overthrow of Syrian President Basher Assad. Fighting between government forces and Syrian rebels has led to thousands of deaths and a growing refugee crisis.

McCain and some other congressional Republicans have urged Obama to intervene more forcefully in the Syrian conflict. But, so far, the White House has declined to get directly involved. Obama has warned Assad about using chemical weapons against rebels.

  2. McCain thinks these rebels are fuzzy do gooder models of democracy.
He should wait till he sees these fellows in charge. They’ll turn out to be the same islamofascists, moslem brotherhod chevra as in Egypt, Libya & Yemen.
    For once, Obama is right.

  3. I’d like to see McCain and the other Republicans in Congress strongly oppose the Muslim Brotherhood and its influence in the US as Michelle Bachmann has done.
