California Rep. Kevin McCarthy easily overcame a challenge from Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador to replace outgoing Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who lost in a primary election last week. House Republicans met behind closed doors today to elect Steve Scalise of Louisiana as the House’s new Majority Whip, the post McCarthy formerly held.
The two are now tasked with leading the GOP through a period of legislative work on spending matters leading up to the midterm elections in November. Read more at the Washington Post.

Mr. McCarthy looks a little like Mittens Romney, whichs makes me nervous, but he does seem like a good guy. Time will tell.
