Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) defended the media on Monday, just hours after President Trump lashed out at “fake news” on Twitter.

Trump earlier Monday had praised evangelical Christian leader Jerry Falwell Jr. for defending Trump’s response to violence earlier this month at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., while criticizing the “fake news media.”

“My view is that most news is not fake, but I do try to look at a variety of sources,” McConnell said at a Louisville Chamber of Commerce event when asked what publications he reads amid “accusations and counteraccusations about fake news.” Read more at The Hill.

  1. How can he prove mainstream news is not fake? I wouldn’t even the trust the weather or sports on CNN, Wash Post, AP and the likes.

  2. Most news is probably not fake. But it only takes a small proportion of fake news to totally destroy the ethical fiber of a country.

Rather like a few small items of loshon horah is all it takes to destroy people and countries. And false news is many times even worse than loshon horah: it’s motzi shem rah.

Even the statement that most news is not fake can be construed as false news in that people will understand it as a seal of approval for all news.

  3. McConnell is a politician who must be PC for his own safety. Enough innocent people were killed by the DNC and the left. He is not up to being next.

  4. On CNN’s website today a story linked to from their main page contains this flat-out lie:
“About two years ago, then-presidential candidate Trump said McCain was not a war hero because he was captured, imprisoned and tortured during the Vietnam War.”
What Trump actually said was disgusting and indefensible, but his quote was “He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
For whatever reason, the CNN reporter felt it necessary to embellish the quote with the “imprisoned and tortured” trailer. She also distorted the first part of Trump’s quote to make it sound as if Trump said McCain lost the status of “Hero” by being captured. This isn’t the case – Trump said McCain’s capture didn’t give him the status of “Hero”.

I’m not defending Trump’s quote – it’s disgusting. What I am doing is pointing out CNN’s dishonesty. Every single day their main page is filled with op-eds blasting Trump and shrill headlines that are more op-eds masquerading as news. Just look at today’s main headline: “Trump goes on rampage”. Is this sober news reporting? Also, recall CNN’s blackmailing of the blogger who posted the “Trump beating up CNN” video.

P.S, I’m no Trump fanboy. I voted for Hillary Clinton. Nonetheless, facts are facts and CNN has abandoned any shred of impartiality, fairness and honesty when it comes to President Trump.
