German chancellor Angela Merkel was elected to an historic fourth term in office on Sunday, according to exit polls.
BBC News reports that Merkel’s center-right party, the CDU/CSU, won 32.5 percent of the vote, keeping it as the largest party in Germany’s parliament.
The far-right, nationalist AfD party made strong gains in the election, as exit polls suggest it’s on track to win 13.5 percent of the vote, giving it a seat in Germany’s parliament for the first time in its history. Read more at The Hill.
