Joaquín El Chapo GuzmánMexican leaders are not responding to U.S. offers of aid in tracking down escaped drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, according to frustrated officials on both sides of the border.

The New York Times reports that the U.S. has offered “Marshals, drones, even a binational task force” to track down the fugitive.

“We can’t really understand why they are refusing to give an answer,” one Mexican official told the Times. “We’re just on standby.”

The U.S. and Mexico had frequently worked together to track down criminals under the previous Mexican president.

A former assistant DEA agent said, “It’s kind of like a joke: ‘Gee, a tunnel, who would have thought.’ It’s kind of a no-brainer.” Read more at The New York Times.
