Minister Landau Pulls ‘Kosher Electricity’ Bill

Sunday December 18, 2011 12:40 PM - 4 Comments

uzi-landauIsraeli Energy and Water Minister Dr. Uzi Landau instructed his director-general to retract a proposed bill known as “kosher electricity,” after public pressure mounted against the bill and the ministry this weekend. “Kosher electricity” would have given the Chief Rabbinate the authority to oversee operations at the Israel Electric Corporation, an idea that protesters feared would alter the status quo of the country.

Landau, on the other hand, had argued that the bill would prevent the endangerment of human lives, as thousands of charedi families unhappy with the the IEC are today using generators and pirated connections to power their homes on Shabbos.

“As the person responsible for the supply of reliable and safe electricity to residents of Israel, safeguarding human lives is a top priority issue of very important value,” Landau said in a statement released by his office, adding that the ministry intends to check and correct the current version of the bill.

To explain in a nutshell the halchic problems of the IEC, as well as the transparency of the “hetter” to rely upon it on a “lechatchila” basis is beyond the scope of this comment. Let it suffice to say that plenty of unnecesary “melachos” are done on a regular basis to simply monitor the current and feul the system, based on convenience purposes and efficiency alone. And these actions are regulated according to the overall demand (aside from the fact that all hospitals are obligated to have automatic backup generators in case of an outage).

The present legislation in this country is based on roughly 99% political harassment and only 1% “democracy”…

The leftist-dominated media in this country has yet to leave the antireligious stereotype of pre-holocaust Europe, - where “democracy” was seen virtually as a one way policy against any “religious” sentiment.

It is a shame that they have not yet matured enough to see otherwise. The facts speak for themselves. (And yes - I will continue to use a generator where necessary. Thank you, leftists, - and try to prepare your defense in the Heavenly Court! You are STILL Jews just like we are, and I know that your denial of your own heritage is never 100%.)

Dr. Uzi Landau seems very evenhanded and level headed i wonder what his affiliation is it is nice to see some people can see beyond the petty politicking and get something important done
