romney-santorumAppearing on the Jay Leno show, Mitt Romney says he’d be happy to share a ticket with rival Rick Santorum as his VP.

“I’m happy with him saying he’d like to be part of an administration with me, nothing wrong with that, if he’s the VP that’s better. I’d rather be the president, let him be the vice president,” Romney said of Santorum on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, broadcast on Tuesday night.

Mr Romney also talked about Mr Obama’s plans to remove 33,000 “surge” troops from Afghanistan by October 2012, leaving a force of around 68,000 to fight the Taliban and train Afghan forces.

“I don’t think you publish deadlines. When you’re in a conflict, you don’t say: we’re getting out as of this date, regardless of the circumstances. I think that communicates to your opponent and to the other people who are trying to gauge how much they can depend on you whether you’re going to be there for them or not,” Mr Romney said.

  1. It would be vey smart for Romney to choose Santorum as VP. This way he would sure up the Conservative base. Santorum would make lukshen kugel out of Uncle Joe “foot in mouth” Biden in a debate!

  2. Yes, but remember that the vice-president is only a heartbeat (or ch”v an assassin’s bullet) away from the presidency. Maybe Romney could cut it – after all, he did a decent job as governor of MA, but does Santorum have the good judgment, diplomatic skills and plain smarts to be President in our difficult times?

Please, Mr. Romney, choose someone as your running mate who could do the job if he had to, maybe someone without the name recognition, but with the qualtities to carry the load if they had to.

  3. Not that I care as I am going with Mr. Obama, but heavens forbid that Mr. Romney did get elected, Mr. Huntsman would make a very intelligent choice for VP. Of course, I am not sure if Mr. Huntsman would consider it, but he is truly a great statesman and has the know how to fix China. Which Mr. Romney seriously lacks.

  4. This article also really takes Romney’s comments out of context. You have to hear the tone of the whole interview. When asked to come up with one term for various (supposed) VP candidates Romney responded as follows:
    Leno: Marco Rubio
    Romney: American Dream
    Leno: Paul Ryan
    Romney: Creative
    Leno: Rick Santorum
    Romney: Press secretary

    Hameivin yavin.
