yisroel-eichlerIsraeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni blasted Housing and Construction Minister Ariel Atias for refusing to give priority affordable housing to households where both partners work. “The housing minister’s decision is an insult to those who went out to the streets (to protest),” she said, adding that the measure makes the benefit only accessible to the charedi sector.

MK Yisrael Eichler (United Torah Judaism) responded by calling Livni “our enemy,” prompting Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin to expel him from the session.

  1. What a undemocratic move to make if an opposing minister calls it as it is! Rivlin who is supposed to be more to the right (ha,ha) throws another member out because he disagrees with an avowed leftist. If all that goes on in the knesset wasn’t so tragic, it would be beyond laughable!

  2. Ridiculous. As if worse insults don’t get thrown around left and right in Knesset sessions.

I have a question for Livni: Is her problem only with kollel couples? What about families where the mother is at home and the father works? Does she have a problem with that?

THe people who took to the streets to protest had a much larger agenda than just housing. It was similar to the OWS demonstrations – they had a whole list of entitlements they demanded as their “rights.”

  3. Rivlin who is supposed to be more to the right (ha,ha) throws another member out because he disagrees with an avowed leftist.

No, Rivlin threw Eichler out for a serious breach of accepted parliamentary etiquette and behavior.

If all the ignorance that goes on in the comments columns of this website wasn’t so laughable it would be tragic.

  4. Eichler’s behavior was heinous. Screaming, yelling, pointing and accusing is not the ‘Derech
WHO GAINED THE POINTS in this round anyway?

  5. There is a certain decorum and respect that is expected in parliamentary discussions. Rivlin has been attempted to raise the level of discourse in the Knesset and should be praised for doing so. By resorting to an ad hominem argument Eichler degraded himself and the Knesset
