Four people were hurt in a car crash at 3 p.m. today near the intersection of Robert Pitt Drive and Route 59 in Monsey.

A Toyota Corolla being driven by a man west on Route 59 slammed into a 36-year-old mother, Mrs. Braun, and her three children – a thirteen year old daughter, an eight year old daughter, and a three month old boy in a carriage, the latter suffering cardiac  arrest. All of the Brauns, residents of Monsey, were taken to Westchester Medical Center.

The motorist was not hurt.

At least one girl suffered serious injuries.

There are no sidewalks in the area where the accident occurred.

A witness at the scene related that the driver of the Toyota, frustrated with heavy traffic, drove onto the shoulder of Route 59 in order to turn onto Robert Pitt Drive, when he hit the four members of the Braun family.

  1. Bde Unspeakable tragedy! Its a miracle that this does not happen more often, rachmona litzlan. Everyday there are impatient drivers driving around stopped cars on shoulders or opposite lanes.

  2. One of the most frustrating places on earth to drive. Perhaps most dangerous. Poorly planned and full of mechutzafim. I have stopped at crosswalks for people only to be passed on the left while honking at me. Braking just in time to narrowly avoid running over the crossing pedestrians at the crosswalk. I never saw more audacious drivers or aggressive or impatient or discourteous then I see in Monsey New York. just to get to the next red light…pathetic! and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Lose their license to drive. Absolutely worst decision makers on earth drive in this town.

    • Amain to that. +1, unfortunately.

People like to complain about Brooklyn. Are you kidding me? Monsey is 10 times worse. Maybe it’s something in the water. The pedestrians have to use a little more seichel as well, though.

  3. The street is blocked off for “investigation” not sure what there is to investigate. when there is no accident then its a “miracle” and should be investigated. as the other reader wrote, the crosswalks on Maple Ave, 306, Rt 59 .. are extremely dangerous even if the car coming down the road stops other cars would cross them out or cars that turn in from other streets come in. I had this twice that I stopped for pedestrians to cross and they almost were knocked over by other cars, so I simply stopped stopping. WHAT WE NEED IS NOT MORE “AFFORTABLE HOUSING (=5X THE PRICE THEN OTHER TOWNS) WE NEED SIDE WALKS, PARKS FOR THE KIDS TO PLAY (since all the yards are occupied by 5 more apartments) and BRIDGES FOR PEDESTIRANS TO CROSS, on Maple. 59 and 306.

    • Were are all the people that tell us to vote for more development ?
Were are the big signs ?
Maybe who ever pays for the free transportation on election day, should pay for more local shuttle buses, so will have less people and cars on the roads.

  4. I am responding to the video by the gentleman. The state will not do anything about building safer traffic. It is time that the residents of months he just constructor own traffic light traffic bumps and whatever else they need to stop traffic. Don’t rely on the state or the city or the county they will do nothing we have to do it ourselves Yidden.
