ROCKPORT, TX - AUGUST 26: A destroyed apartment complex is seen after Hurricane Harvey passed through on August 26, 2017 in Rockport, Texas. Harvey made landfall shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, just north of Port Aransas as a Category 4 storm and is being reported as the strongest hurricane to hit the United States since Wilma in 2005. Forecasts call for as much as 30 inches of rain to fall in the next few days. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

Homeowners suffering flood damage from Harvey are more likely to be on the hook for losses than victims of prior storms, with insurance experts estimating only a small fraction of homeowners in Harvey’s path of destruction to have flood insurance.

Only two of 10 homeowners have coverage, according to some analysts.

That means families with flooded basements, soaked furniture and water-damaged walls will have to dig deep into their pockets or take on more debt to fix up their homes. Some may be forced to sell, if they can, and leave their communities. Read more here.

  1. Flood insurance very expensive and high deductible. This city is kaput. Mr trump has a big problem and is To Blame all the way. Npr reported so I believe.

  2. If they gambled and didn’t take out insurance on their home, thinking they were so smart & they would save a few dollars…well they are now getting what they deserve. No tears being shed for them. TOO BAD!!! Dont you dare give them a penny of my tax money.
