tamerlan-tsarnaevThe mother of the two brothers suspected of carrying out the Boston bombings on Thursday launched an impassioned attack on the US authorities over the death of one of her sons, as her husband planned to travel to the United States to find out what happened.

The parents of the two suspects, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, spoke to reporters in the Russian region of Dagestan where they were living when the Boston marathon bombings took place.

Their mother Zubeidat, in a hugely emotional intervention, accused the US security services of needlessly killing her eldest son and tearfully expressed regret the family ever moved to the United States.

Tamerlan, 26, was killed in a chaotic shootout while Dzhokhar, 19, was gravely wounded during his capture by the US authorities and has now been charged.

Tamerlan was “killed, cruelly killed. I want to scream to the whole world, what did you do? He was alive!” Zubeidat, dressed in an Islamic headscarf, said in sometimes incoherent comments in the main Dagestan city Makhachkala.

“He was alive! Why did they need to kill him? Why? They got him alive,” she said speaking in English and standing up as her husband Anzor remained seated.

Zubeidat reaffirmed her belief that her sons were innocent of the Boston bombings. “I know one thing, that my children did not do this.”

She also expressed worry over the injuries to Dzhokhar that he received during his capture. “He has a really bad wound on his neck. He is getting better but he is still weak.”

She tearfully expressed regret over the family’s move to the United States in 2002, waving her hands and banging the table with emotion.

“Why did I ever go there? Why? I thought that America will protect us and our kids, it will be safe.”

“But America took my kids away from me. Why would I not regret?”

Zubeidat and the father Anzor had met investigators from the US FBI in Dagestan earlier this week in a visit organised by the US embassy in cooperation with the Russian authorities.

Anzor, wearing dark sunglasses and unlike his wife speaking mainly in Russian, adopted a calmer demeanour and said he planned to go to the United States on Friday.

“I plan to go to the United States to clear everything up. I am not looking for revenge or to offend. Let the special services sort it out,” Anzor told reporters.

He said Zubeidat had not decided whether to accompany him, apparently due to shoplifting charges against her dating from 2012.

“I want to see my youngest son and bury my eldest,” he said.

Zubeidat said she wanted Tamerlan’s body to be brought from the United States for burial at home but was not sure how this could be carried out.

“That (the United States) is where he got killed. It is not easy (to bring the body back). It is financially expensive,” she said.

The parents have been recently living in Dagestan, an overwhelmingly Muslim region on the Caspian Sea where the family briefly stayed before leaving for the United States.

Anzor is an ethnic Chechen born in Kyrgyzstan while Zubeidat is an ethnic Avar who hails from Dagestan itself. The brothers spent most of their youth in Kyrgyzstan before the family moved to Dagestan and then the United States.

Dzhokhar has been charged with federal terror offences over the twin blasts on April 15 that killed three and wounded 264 people at the Boston Marathon’s finish line.

There have been mounting questions in the United States about whether the US authorities missed crucial signals that should have raised suspicions about the two brothers before the bombings.

Particular interest has surrounded a trip of around six months made by Tamerlan in 2012 to the Northern Caucasus, and whether he made contact with the Islamist underground in the Northern Caucasus.

Anzor denied the existence of any hidden motive to his trip, much of which he said was taken up with the decorating of their house and waiting for the issue of Tamerlan’s Russian passport.

“He had no (other) friends. He was next to me in this time,” he said.

  1. You have to understand, the Mother is in pain. Her child is dead. Another was badly wounded. She is under tremendous stress. Any Mother would react in similar fashion. You have to have some degree of Rachmanus on her. Yes, it may be a disfunctional family, but so what, we all have some disfunction in our lives.
Now, having said all that, the Mother does have some valid points. The 2nd son, while UNARMED laying in the boat, was shot at for no reason, by the FBI! He was severely injured by our US Government! If she gets a good lawyer & keeps repeating some key words, it won’t be long before Hussain Obama goes on another apology tour to the downtroden Muslem World! That idiot in the White House is a radical self hating American!

  2. #2 is obviously following a different story then the rest of us!

I like how she says that the ‘Americans’ killed her oldest son, when it seems clear to everyone that her younger son actually killed his brother!!
Good work you ‘parents of angels’, you should be proud.

  3. One son is dead and a second one is lying seriously wounded in a hospital and under arrest by the federal government. But where is mom? At home. Home! Maybe if she were more of a mother her boys wouldn’t have gotten themselves into this mess to begin with

  4. I agree with #2! To #1, why would you want to do that?! Its not she that did anything wrong! It’s her sons; one of whom now is dead and the other severely injured?! Why would you want to inflict more pain on this mother who just lost her son while the other is suffering from gunshot wounds?!

  5. #2,

You have to understand, the mother bore and raised a muderous monster. She knew about it a loooong time ago, but was content about . Not only that, she has the audassaty to not appologize now???

As for the cruel idiot hiding in the boat, they SHOULD have killed that muderer. Have you no sympathy for the mother of the innocent at the marathon?

  6. Bubby,

You start your post by apologizing for the mother’s ridiculous tirade. Then you criticize the FBI for shooting her terrorist son after he had already thrown bombs at the Boston PD and blown up a marathon….

…then you call Obama an apologist?

Is your post a joke or was it just written by someone with an 85 IQ?
