Helen Adelson of Westhampton passed away this afternoon at Southside Hospital of injuries suffered in a fatal accident on the Long Island Expressway Sunday morning that claimed the lives of six people.

Helen’s husband, Isidore (Itchy), died on Sunday night from injuries sustained in the crash. He was 81.

The Adelsons were headed to a wedding in Rockleigh, New Jersey, being celebrated by a family from The Hampton Synagogue, where the Adelsons davened for the past 20 years. The shul is led by Rabbi Marc Schneier.

The levaya for both Mr. and Mrs. Adelson will be held this Wednesday at 11 a.m. at The Hampton Synagogue, located on Sunset Avenue in Westhampton Beach. Kevurah will follow at the New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon.

A number of people were killed in Sunday morning’s car accident on the LIE.

Two other Westhampton residents, Marvin Tenzer and Sandra Tenzer, were injured in the crash. Mr. Tenzer was driving the vehicle in which the Adelsons were riding in.

The car was traveling westbound on the LIE near Exit 68 when an eastbound car lost control, went flying across the highway median, airborne into the westbound lanes, and struck the Tenzers’ car, as well as another car carrying Scott Martella, who was killed along with three occupants of his vehicle.

Mr. Carmelo Pinales, 26, of Hicksville lost control of his gray Subaru Outback while driving eastbound on the Long Island Expressway. He and his sister, Patricia Pinales, 27, of Westbury were killed.

Martella, 29, of Northport, who was driving a 2014 Honda, was a former aide of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The Adelsons were from the few mispallelim of the Hampton Synagogue who lived in the Hamptons all year-round. They were beloved by one and all, and were very involved in the kehillah, including making sure that there is a daily, year-round minyan, and being involved in other aspects of the shul community. Their passing has plunged the entire shul community into mourning.

Yehi zichrom boruch.
