N. Korea Renames Ships to Bypass Embargo

A North Korea shipping company circumvented UN sanctions by renaming ships and transferring ownership to other companies, a UN report revealed Wednesday.

North Korea’s arms embargo was extended to the Ocean Maritime Management (OMM) company in July when it was caught importing missile systems and launchers from Cuba.

Despite the sanctions, OMM continued operations in at least 10 countries while 13 of 14 ships have been renamed and transferred to different ownership, according to a report obtained by the AFP. The report also found that Pyongyang continues to attempt purchase of items relating to nuclear program and missile launches. Read more.
