North Korea’s vice foreign minister said Friday that President Donald Trump’s comments and incendiary tweets have added fuel to a “vicious cycle” of foreign tensions and that Pyongyang is prepared to launch its own pre-emptive strike. Vice Minister Han Song Ryol said Pyongyang feels that Trump’s administration is “more vicious and more aggressive” than was Obama’s.

North Korea, Han said, will continue to stockpile its nuclear arsenal in both “quality and quantity” if Trump wants to go to war. “Trump is always making provocations with his aggressive words,” Han said. “It’s not the DPRK but the U.S. and Trump that makes trouble.”

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned the U.S. and North Korea to stop the escalation before it reaches a point of no return. “We call on all parties to refrain from provoking and threatening each other, whether in words or actions, and not let the situation get to an irreversible and unmanageable stage,” Wang told reporters Friday. Pyongyang claims it will soon finish developing an intercontinental ballistic missile and nuclear warhead that will be capable of attacking the U.S. mainland. International experts put that milestone at a few years from now. Read more.
