A name has been added to Rav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Kiryas Melech in Bnei Brak, whose condition at Mayanei Hayeshuah Medical Center has worsened significantly.

The name Refoel was added as a merit for the rosh yeshiva to experience rachamei Shomayim.

Rav Borenstein was taken to the hospital last week and has since undergone a complicated medical procedure and been under the careful watch of a team of physicians.

Rav Borenstein is in the intensive care unit. Tests taken right after he was first hospitalized showed that the rosh yeshiva suffered a mild heart attack and was suffering from pneumonia. He has since experienced several complications as concern has grown regarding his condition.

Rav Borenstein, 70, has been hospitalized several times in the past, including for chest pains and heart-related concerns, but, by the grace of Heaven, has recovered and resumed his full schedule of shiurim at his yeshiva, where his fellow rosh yeshiva is Rav Shlomo Kanievsky, son of Rav Chaim Kanievsky.

Rav Borenstein is a member of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah of Degel Hatorah.

In yeshivos across the country, tefillos are being said for Rav Borenstein’s complete and speedy recovery.

At Yeshiva Kiryas Melech, a special seder will be held today from 5:30 p.m. until the start of Shabbos, with a taanis dibbur.

Rav Chaim Kanievsky has instructed yeshivos and shuls to recite Tehillim between Kabbolas Shabbos and Maariv this evening. Rav Chaim also gave his approval of the aforementioned addition of the name Refoel.

Rav Dov Yoffe, senior mashgiach of Kfar CHassidim, and Rav Dovid Cohen, rosh yeshivas Chevron, has publicly asked the tzibbur to daven for Rav Borenstein.

All are asked to daven for Rav Refoel Shmuel Yaakov ben Yehudis Tziviah, besoch she’ar cholei Yisroel.
