Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has hailed the discovery of one of the oldest Torah ornaments ever found in archaeological digs as a “wonderful gift to the Jewish people.”
Yesterday, after the archaeologists found an ancient golden medallion at the the foot of the Temple Mount, Prime Minister Netanyahu contacted Hebrew University’s Dr. Eilat Mazar, who made the stunning discovery of two bundles of treasure containing thirty-six gold coins, gold and silver jewelry, and a gold medallion with the menorah symbol etched into it. Also etched into the 10-cm medallion are a shofar and the image of a Sefer Torah.
The Prime Minister said, “This is a magnificent discovery. Nationally, it attests to the ancient Jewish presence and to the sanctity of the place; this is as clear as the sun and it is tremendous.” Netanyahu continued to praise the discovery by saying, “This is very moving. This find is the essence of our heritage.”

This is very moving. This find is the essence of our heritage.
The Torah is the essence of our heritage. Nothing i more important than torah study and observance.
I don’t under stand what the beg gedillah is here. This was dated to the early seventh century CE. Surely there are much earlier finds!!
Also, who says this is a torah ornament? It may very well be a neclace with a pendant…
Just curious!
Does the Torah resemble the Sefardi scroll in a case or the Ashkenazi scroll in a ‘mentelle’??
Go to the living Torah Museum you will see and be able yo touch much older Jewish coins and items 1800 Plan A Tour

So moving. That he’ll start keeping shabbos
#2 I think you’ll find tha the amount of archealogical evidence from that time I
And earlier associated with jews is very small compared with general findings of other societies
Also, the amount of gold involved is huge when you consider it’s time period. Chances of someone owning it is minimal.
Is it permissable according to halacha to make a gold coin with a seven-branched menorah?
is this a raya like the shitos who hold that the branches of the menorah were curved (as is engraved in the arch of titus)?
