Netanyahu Late for Meeting Due to Eye Problem

Despite an announcement by the prime minister’s office that he would not attend the weekly cabinet meeting today, Binyamin Netanyahu arrived at the meeting ten minutes late. Netanyahu woke up with a speck in his eye this morning and after a doctor removed the foreign body, he attended the cabinet meeting, officials said. In the original statement, the prime minister’s office said Vice Premier Moshe Ya’alon would chair the meeting instead of Netanyahu, and a photo-op planned prior to the meeting was canceled. Defense Minister Ehud Barak did not attend the weekly meeting, as he was headed to Cairo on Sunday for talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

They are expected to discuss progress in negotiations with Hamas for the release of abducted IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
