Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended Israel’s security service against harsh criticism over its handling of a terror case involving five teenage Yeshiva students being held for their involvement with a stone throwing attack that killed a Palestinian mother of nine.

“We owe (the Shin Bet) a lot; it does its work with professionalism and dedication,” Netanyahu said in a video that also commended the organization for its capture Tuesday of the Palestinians suspected in the killing of two Israeli soldiers at the West Bank’s Givat Assaf junction in December.

President Reuven Rivlin went further to condemn the ongoing criticism of Israel’s national security services as “irresponsible.”

“These days, the Shin Bet (security service) is standing in the line of fire. We must beware of irresponsible attacks on people whose job it is to maintain and protect Israel’s security from domestic and external threats,” Rivlin said.
