Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu said through a surrogate that he will not interfere in the upcoming presidential election.
Chicago mayor and former Obama campaign advisor Rahm Emanuel met with Ehud Barak, Israeli Defense Minister on Thursday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
During the meeting, Barak reportedly relayed a message from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Emanuel, intended for the president himself – that he will not attempt to intercede in the upcoming presidential election on behalf of GOP candidate Mitt Romney.
The Chicago Sun-Times additionally found that the afternoon meeting was brief, and lasted approximately an hour – a rescheduled affair originally meant to happen six months prior.
The message came following Netanyahu’s public questions regarding Barack Obama’s dedication to preventing a nuclear attack from Iran, and to the defense of Israel in general.
One such critique came while being interviewed on NBC’s “Meet the Press” this past Sunday, Netanyahu said on air that he felt Obama could be tougher with Iran.
“Iran is guided by a leadership with an unbelievable fanaticism,” he was quoted as saying to host David Gregory. “It’s the same fanaticism that you see storming your embassies today. Do you want these fanatics to have nuclear weapons?”
Netanyahu had additionally criticized Obama for failing to meet with him during his visit to the United States, according to multiple news reports.
He allegedly insisted, however, that these complaints also have no bearing on which candidate he intends to support in the November election, the Times learned.

Here we go again – Bibi in foot-in-the-mouth overdrive. He’s already tried to interfere, on national US television no less. Who believes him any more? Not even his own PR people, probably.
BTW, Obama is not a Muslim, and there’s nothing wrong with a Mormon being President. (And considering Mr. Romney’s tax shenanigans, he’s probably not much of a Mormon anyway. The Mormon religion values honesty in business.)
Ethnic/racial/religious prejudice is a lousy and inefficient way to choose who to vote for. Try voting on the issues instead.
