Neturei Karta Denies Anti-Shalit Statements

hirshNeturei Karta representatives are denying that they are against working for the release of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. A message sent out on the Neturei Karta e-mail list, they said, was sent by a young man “on the fringe of the movement.” reported earlier that the Orthodox Union criticized Neturei Karta for their statement that Gilad Shalit was not worth saving because he is not a shomer Torah umitzvos. The OU, in their condemnation, did not name Neturei Karta.

Neturei Karta spokesman Yisroel Meir Hirsh has told the Bechadrei Charedim website that he has been “directly involved in activities to secure Gilad Shalit’s release.”

“We’re in favor of pidyon shevu’im  and therefore we strongly deny everything that was published in our name,” Hirsh said.

  1. Now that makes more sense. Problem is, all the loonies out there attach themselves to this extremist (though basically sincere) group. NK should call out those individuals and publicly condemn them.

  2. This is a prime example of Loshon Hara and jumping to conclusions. I hope anyone who read Matzav’s first post didn’t believe it,as they needed to do according to halacha.

  3. “according to halacha.” And here I was thinking that it was a limud zechus on them, because drooling idiot is better than traitor. Feh.

  4. “on the fringe of the movement.”
How loony does one have to be, to be considered “on the fringe”. The poor fellow must be absolutely nuts (even relative to these lunatics).
