norman-lammOU Press has published The Royal Table: A Passover Haggadah by Rabbi Norman Lamm, Chancellor and Rosh HaYeshiva of Yeshiva University.

Rabbi Lamm, in addition to serving as Chancellor of Yeshiva University and Rosh HaYeshiva of its affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, was the founding editor of Tradition, a  journal of Orthodox thought published by the Rabbinical Council of America, and convenes the Orthodox Forum, a think tank of rabbis, academicians, and community leaders that meets annually to discuss topics of concern in the Orthodox community.

Before assuming the presidency of Yeshiva University, a position he held for 26 years, Rabbi Lamm served for many years as Rabbi of The Jewish Center.

The new volume was edited by Dr. Joel B. Wolowelsky, Dean of the Faculty at the Yeshivah of Flatbush and Associate Editor of Tradition and the series MeOtzar HoRav: Selected Writings of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik. Dr. Wolowelsky selected and edited the material from Rabbi Lamm’s archives, turning years of sermons into a running commentary. Rabbi Menachem Genack, General Editor of OU Press, wrote a preface for the book.

This book is the latest offering from OU Press, the recently created publishing house of the Orthodox Union that last year published The Seder Night: An Exalted Evening, a haggadah commentary based on the teachings of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik.

Future books include a moving commentary on the Tisha B’Av Kinos based on the teachings of Rabbi Soloveitchik, edited by Rabbi Simon Posner and incorporating a new translation of the Kinos by Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, Executive Vice President Emeritus of the OU; and a new Siddur with a profound commentary based on the teachings of Rabbi Soloveitchik, accompanied by the translation of the prayers by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks and the popular Koren layout.

  1. Didn’t you just post an article from Rabbi Shubert about revisionist history in regards to those who didn’t listen to gedolim?
And now your publicizing the “sefer” ofsomeone who R’ Elya decried as a sonei yisroel?
(Not to mention his famous intrepetion of dayeinu in regards to if HKB”H would not have brought us to har sinai and gave us the Torah…)

  2. what’s the explanation behind this post?

Is it an hagadah about the lifestyle of the Jews who unfortunatly didn’t make it out of Egypt, but passed on and were buried durring the plague of darkness?!

  3. Thank you #4. No intelligent conversation on Rabbi Lamm is truly complete until someone mentions the ingenious “gifter slaughters lamm” line, regardless of how badly they mangle the spelling

  4. Raboisai, rather than thinking, let’s wait to see what Daas Toyra says. When we are on the level of the gedoylim, only then can we think on our own. The whole message of Purim is ad delo yoda–we know nothing about these things, let’s surrender our daas to that of the Gedoylim.

  5. “Gifter slaughters lamm” (quoted from NY Times)
Which means Rav Mordechai Gifter Zt”l had the koiach to get up against this person

  6. It does not amke sense that matzav.com would post something positive about Lamm, isnt it a “toirah’dike” website? The answer is $$$.

  7. Its actually the impartive of this site to bring up this new hagudu because yesterdays issue with rabbi surbarts letter was just to extreme against colleges with a frum enviornment, and so this hagudu by rabbi lam is just to ballance things out, although its incomparable, but hey reb moshe said colleges were usur well whats the difference? now with regards to the kfira taught in turo, well even in high school schools encounter this problem but there are ways around it, for instance like saying that each one of the sheishis yimei breishis was much longer then a day so there are ways to deal with these problems. but a ban on giving frum people an education to enable them to make a parnusu in a erlichi way is just like the machmirim in meah shearim that are machmir on hilchas Shabis but not hilchas ben udom lacheveroi and even the kidushas Shabis they claim to be protecting is a farce considering the chilul Shabis caused by massive police and media presence so here too eventhough sheamum maivi lidai aveiru but hey a gudul 50 years ago said so please note that all these so called kanoim always quote a gudol thats not alive anymore

  8. Its gotta be know that all the gedolim including Rav Y. Gorelick Zt”l were against him.
Even Rabbi Kahn of YU spoke against him, where is the world holding in todays day and age? Against da’as torah?

  9. Did you hear the tape? It was incredible. Rav Gifter said it the way any true Gadol should say it. His only concern was Toras Emes and defending the breach against those like Lamm who poison us with Dayos Kosavos.

  10. The posts here today are more ignorant and absurd than usual…HAS any of the great minds who have posted ever read a word of Rabbi Lamm’s great writings??? what a shame!

  11. R. Nochum Lamm shlita learned by and was close to Rav Pam of Toirah Vodaas, z”l, who didn’t bash him like some here do.

Re R. Elya z”l – you guys who are bashing R. Lamm shlita here don’t even repeat correctly exactly what R. Elya Svei said. If you were such Chassidim of R. Elya, I would think you would not misquote and misrepresent him (and Rabbeinu Yonah).

Re R. Gifter z”l – He held that it was important to use impeccable English (see introduction to R. Frand on chumash by Artscroll). He would not be pleased with your atrocious English.

I’m not sure why this website posted the story, since some of the dense readers here have trouble with it and may be still having hangovers, but if it is posted, people should conduct themselves like the bnei Torah they claim to be.

  12. I heard the tape. It’s amazing. Required listening for anyone who wants to understand why the Gedolim were repulsed by Lamm and his affiliated institution. Nowadays people’s yiras shamayim and ahavas haemes are not strong enough for them to speak the truth like Rav Gifter did. But at least we should know the truth. Lamm, besides being an apikores was also, as Rav Gifter said on the tape, an “idiot.”

  13. Rav Gifter also said that if not for YU he would of been a shaigetz. He thanked YU for all they did for him BUT I have such and such issues….
I love when people pick and choose…

  14. And to think – the OU is publishing this collection of deos kozvos. In certain communities what goes into your mouth has to be kosher but not what goes into your mind.

Or as the Chazon Ish so eloquently said, “There are some people whose house you can eat anything they give you because they are strict with Kashrus … except for one thing – you can’t drink their wine because if they pour it, it’s yayin nesech!”

  15. It is about time Matzav presented Rabbi Lamm to
its readers. Rabbi Lamm espouses an authentic
Torah outlook which is far superior

  16. Well, we’ll probably hear stuff like: the 10 Makos were a “natural cause that can be explained scientifically”
