supermarketMonsey – The location is certainly not new to kosher as it was once the site of Pathmark, which was widely heralded as one of the supermarket pioneers in virtually having a kosher store within a store. Next month, a new kosher supermarket, Evergreen, will open in the newly renovated Town Square, which includes a number of well-known stores including Amazing Savings, according to Kosher Today.

The store will emulate the model of the Gourmet Glatt stores in Cedarhurst and Boro Park where many well-known food brands operate stores within the store in addition to special sections for meat and fish, for example. Monsey is one of the fastest growing Jewish communities, including its large Chasidic population with significantly larger families than are found in other Jewish communities.

Kosher Today reports that the developers hope to cater to a diverse clientele by including a broad product mix, ranging from unique gourmet items to products in bulk (i.e. Costco).

Evergreen will feature some unique sections like On the Run or on The Go, Sage (focus on health), Blossoms, Warehouse (the bulk goods), and Glatt Geshmak (prepared foods).

  1. Why does Monsey not feature a Kolel style store? Who needs gourmet, we Have Rockland Kosher. Thousands of struggling families could do with a price break. Enough with all these Gourmet stores. The Hamon Am need good prices not some fancy steak that most people cannot afford

  2. not sure if its gonna make it. Rockland Kosher is too strong and has a very loyal Chassidishe clientele. The biggest pull to this place may be their parking lot.

  3. To #2,
4 your information, this store plans to beat all other groceries by having the lowest prices in monsey

  4. we need more traffic at that intersection
it is important to tie things up and make Monsey the true ghetto it should be.

Equally important is to apply upward pressure on pricing. No Monsey woman should feel complete
without squandering some tuition money on gourmet,
so she can feel herself equal to her peers in the same position..

  9. There are quite a few kosher groceries big and small in Monsey and they all seem to be thriving B”H, so who’s to say that there’s no room for one more! Monsey is growing by leaps and bounds and there seems to be business for all the stores so far. So, can’t wait to see what this new one, Evergreen, will be all about!
