ny-timesThe first woman to hold the top editor position at the New York Times is gone, and the reason behind her sudden departure might have to do with a gender pay gap, according to the New Yorker.

The Times announced today that Executive Editor Jill Abramson will be replaced after three years by Managing Editor Dean Baquet, who will become the first African-American to hold the top job.

Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. said her departure was related to an “issue with management in the newsroom,” but apparently Abramson recently discovered that her pay and pension as both executive and managing editor has been less than her predecessor, Bill Keller, and confronted top management.

A spokesperson for the Times disputes this, saying her compensation was not less than Keller’s, and notes that pensions are based on years served. Last Friday Abramson met with Sulzberger and was reportedly told of the decision to replace her. Read more at The New Yorker.

  1. Wait, isn’t it the bleeding heart liberal crazies who always complain about the glass ceiling?

    Hypocrites!!

  2. Meanwhile, at the White House Payroll Office, women staff are paid less than their male colleagues.

Jay Carney made a few points when confronted about this very fact; however, shouldn’t these points that Carney makes in defense of Obama apply in all employment sectors?

As usual, the Democrat Party either has double standards or they have no standards at all…

  3. The New York Times………Typical Liberal tripe….”Do as I say, not as I do!”

It’s time for that rag to shut down.

  4. Just remember the line she said when first hired:

“In my house growing up the NYT replaced religion. If the NYT said something it was true..”
