cory_booker[Video below.] Last night, the School for Children with Hidden Intelligence (SCHI) held its Chai Dinner at Lakewood Terrace Hall in Lakewood, NJ.

The guest speaker was Newark Mayor Corey Booker, who said that he would relate a “devar Torah” and demonstrated his knowledge of Judaism and Torah for the enraptured audience of over 2,000.

At the dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Hetzy Stern were the guests of honor, Mr. and Mrs. Menachem Feigel received the Parents of the Year Award, Mr. and Mrs. Yoni Morgenstern received the Kesser Shem Tov Award, and Rabbi and Mrs. Avrohom Cohen received the Avodas Hakodesh Award.

Since its founding by Rabbi Osher Eisemann eighteen years ago, SCHI’s warm and dedicated staff has helped its students surpass even the highest expectations. SCHI services children and adults with over 30 different diagnoses. Over 50 former SCHI students are now enrolled in mainstream schools. SCHI offers therapy free of charge to students who cannot

afford services and experiences a deficit of well over $1 million per year.

SCHI is a dynamic organization that has revolutionized the way so many people perceive children and adults with special needs. Through its incredible work, SCHI has touched not only its students and their families, but the entire community.

  1. From a Time Magazine article about Corey Booker in 2011:

“On the desk in his office are scriptures from about eight different religions. He studies them all. He is a man of, for and about the people.”
