savitzky-belsky-smallA small group of dedicated observant immigrant parents established Yeshiva Torah Vodaath in September 1918. As a pioneer yeshiva, Torah Vodaath has a long distinguished and ongoing history. Standing tall and proud, Yeshiva Torah Vodaath has spearheaded Torah education in America for more than 90 years, so developments within the yeshiva earn recognition and study.

Rabbi Yitzchok Yaakov Sekula, Sadovner Rav, has been affiliated with Yeshiva Torah Vodaath for almost 50 years. He was appointed menahel of the yeshiva by Rabbi Avrohom Pam, zt”l, (1913-2001), so his stepping down at the end of the z’man generated change. The yeshiva, which is growing impressively, inhaled deeply and reorganized its academic administrative leadership.

The Yeshiva will be administered academically by a Vaad Hanhalah (academic board), comprised of Rabbi Yisroel Belsky, Rabbi Yosef Savitsky, Rabbi Moshe Wolfson, and Rabbi Yisroel Reisman, greatly respected names within the Torah community. In addition, Rabbi Elya Katz has assumed the position of menahel of the Beis Medrash.

Further, at the request of the students of the yeshiva, Rabbi Yaakov Aaron Prosky, who previously served as Mesivta Rebbe and popular Sho’el U’Maishiv, has been appointed as the second-year Beis Medrash Maggid Shiur. Rabbi Prosky, who was a talmid muvhak of Rabbi Reuven Fain, zt”l (1924-1993), also serves as the yeshiva’s ba’al korei.

The yeshiva’s continued increase of students is remarkable. Classes are full and acceptance of additional students represents intense efforts on part of the administration. Nevertheless, the yeshiva’s admission policy of never denying qualified students admission is vigorously maintained. The quality of the yeshiva’s education being offered, both religiously and secularly, represents an ideal that is recognized by the entire observant community.

Vodaath established a Flatbush division of its elementary school at Quentin Road and East 31 Street. As the cost of housing has risen dramatically during the past few years, Marine Park has become a somewhat reasonable and attractive alternative for young families seeking to purchase their first home. The Marine Park branch is presently operating at full capacity. Rabbi Shmuel Goldstein and Rabbi Asher Sabo serve as menahalim of the Yeshiva Ketanah.

  1. Mazal Tov To Rabbi Elya Katz for the new position of menahel of the Beis Medrash.

All Talmidim feel very close to Rabbi Katz
He is very warm to the Talmidim & allways has a good Vort for a Talmid.

Rabbi Katz is known for a very smart person a huge PIKECH a thing that he inherited from his big Rebbe Reb Yakov Kaminetzky ZT”L.

We wish him loads of Hatzlacha & may he bring Respect for this holy Yeshiva & respect for Hashem Amen!

  2. As a former talmid who was there within the last few years, I’m afraid to say that Torah Vodaas is a mere shell of what it was while Rav Pam was alive. Although the Mesivta and Kollel are strong, the actual Beis Medrash is very weak and is falling apart. Rav Sekula is trying to revive it but so far his efforts have only been limitly successful. The Bais Medrash has also attracted some “drifters” or “floaters” vehamayvin yavin. Do you research carefully before going to the Bais Medrash. That said, all of the Rebbeim are excellent, its just that the shtark bochurim tend not to stay for Bais Medrash.

  3. Be careful with what you are saying! It looks like some genuine LASHON HARA – maybe even some MOTZEI SHEM RA is being said here!

Especially since I myself attended Torah Vodaas, I have a special obligation to stand up for its honor.

  4. Its people like Berel (commented above) that give Torah Vodaas a bad name. The rabbaiyim are excellent and the yeshiva is on top of its game. People love to knock a yeshiva and say things like “its falling apart.” The yeshiva has been around forever and will remain so. Like any yeshiva, there are more shartker members and there are those less dedicated. Unlike other yeshivas, Torah Vodaas has always been known not to turn people away and maintains the general policy of being very accepting. (This is a policy I believe Rav Pam was very fond of.) Like any yeshiva, your success is up to you. If you want to be successful and take the initiative, you will be very successful in a yeshiva like Torah Vodaas. If not, well then, you won’t be successful anywhere, no matter which yeshiva you are in.

  5. I can’t agree more with Yoss. Berel is likely one of the people he calls “drifters.” As a former talmud, I know Berel’s type. One of those officially learning because he feels he must for whatever purpose (name your motivation) – yet the yeshiva keeps you around because it feels bad for you and really wants the very best from you.

The yeshiva as a whole is excellent.
As a member of klal yisroel, I want the best for every yeshiva, including Torah Vodaas. Look around at the magnificant alumni the yeshiva has created. Each community has within its top ranks a Torah Vodaas alum, both in terms of their limud as well as their status in the business world. Torah Vodaas: Keep it up! If only other yeshivas can be like you!

  6. as a talmid of the yeshiva now i would put the yeshiva at the top. GREAT place to be. I LOVE IT great rabbeim great atmosphere, and everyone is so warm and the yeshiva should keep up it’s great work.
