New Jersey officials want to guarantee that all children born in the state are covered by health insurance before they leave the hospital. A six-month pilot program announced today mandates that staff at nine participating hospitals verify that newborns have insurance.
Under “Insured for Sure,” officials will assist uninsured parents to submit a one-page NJ FamilyCare application online. The program offers free or subsidized health insurance coverage to children from lower-income families and, in some cases, covers their parents.
