planeAn Indian airline has decided to recruit only female flight attendants in an effort to reduce fuel costs that come with carrying heavier male stewards.

The budget carrier Go Air says that carrying female flight attendants, who on average weigh 33 to 44 pounds less than their male counterparts, will help it save about $500,000 per year in fuel costs, Business Insider reported.

“We are looking at all possible ways of cost-cutting to remain profitable” Go Air CEO Giorgio De Roni tells the Times of India.

The roughly 130 male flight attendants employed by the company will reportedly keep flying, though only females will be recruited for future cabin crew positions, according to the report.

In an effort to combat rising operating costs, the airline has also reduced the size of in-flight magazines and potable water tanks are no longer being filled to capacity, De Roni said.
