shalit1Noam Shalit testified before a Paris criminal court on Sunday against the “Hamas leaders responsible for the abduction of his son,” IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, Yediot Achronot reported.

Shalit was summoned to testify after filing a complaint with the court against his son’s capturers, whom he alleges to be Hamas leaders. In the complaint, Shalit said that the circumstances surrounding his son’s imprisonment violate French laws. The captive soldier holds a French citizenship in addition to his Israeli one.

Shalit told the judges that no external body has been allowed to visit his son since he was kidnapped in 2006.

“I saw that the judges are well-acquainted with the facts, and I hope that the trial leads to international sanctions against those responsible for the violations,” he said following the hearing.

Shalit was expected to return to Israel this evening, after visiting France and the US, where he met with various nations’ UN representatives in an attempt to sway them against voting to recognize a Palestinian state before his son his released.
