barzilai-medical-center-ashkelonIsraeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced today that Barzilai Medical Center’s fortified emergency room will be built according to plan, despite the discovery of ancient kevorim in its intended location. Netanyahu made the decision in his capacity as acting health minister, ordering the graves be relocated.

Eyal Gabai, director-general of the Prime Minister’s Office, said that “we will make sure to relocate the graves with the utmost respect. The new ER will go up as planned.”

Plans to build a new, fortified emergency room for Ashkelon’s medical center have been discussed for years. The project was recently put on hold after initial work at the new ER’s location uncovered an ancient burial site.

Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman promptly suspended construction, and three weeks ago, the government voted 11 to 10 to move the new ER to a different location, despite no evidence suggesting that the site contained Jewish graves.

The relocation project, which would have cost the State millions, sparked mass public criticism, eventually leading the government to entrust Netanyahu with the final decision on the matter.

Following the decision, Netanyahu said he hoped his coalition would prove stable, telling his associates that he wished to continue his cooperation with the United Torah Judaism party.

The Deputy Health Minister’s Office released the following statement: “The deputy minister’s opinion is well known – he is against relocating the graves. The deputy minister will call a United Torah Judaism faction meeting within the next few days in order to decide on future moves.”

Israel Medical Association Chairman Dr. Leonid Idelman welcomed Netanyahu’s decision, saying “it will help save lives. I hope construction starts in the next few days.”

The Barzilai Medical Center said it welcomed the decision and is awaiting breaking ground.

  1. This is war. If Netanyahu and his zionist regime thinks he will move our Zeidas holy kevorim, he is in for some surprises.

  2. what are you talking about. These graves aren’t even Jewish. I promise you after thousands of years, almost anywhere you walk someone is buried under your feet. The living take precedence over the dead. I am sure everything will be done with kavod.

  3. I think #1 is part of the money hungry attention, seeking blood thirsty crowd, just awaiting the next place to throw stones, and cause another major profanity on Hashems name, and to black list us charedim even more! Now if reb elyashiv is against this move which might save lives as rabbi litzman claims then even if we get blacklisted we will follow our gudol hadors psak which is a kidush Hashem, but lets hear a kluri psak on this matter from reb elyashiv shlita with him knowing all the facts and when he gives his psak we will just do as he says even if it means peacefull demonstrations the torah says kichul asher yoruchu even if they tell you right is left and left is right but that psak has to be clear with reb elyashiv knowing all the facts because in the last few years many people have been missquoting gedolim.
