Number of Syrian Refugees Hits 1 Million

syriaOne million refugees have fled Syria since the crisis took hold of the country two years ago. The U.N. High Commissioner on Refugees marked the milestone number as evidence that “Syria is spiraling towards full-scale disaster,” noting that, as violence has escalated, thenumber of people fleeing Syria for neighboring countries in the first few months of this year had jumped and resources are wearing thin.

According to refugee agency officials, between 7,000 and 8,000 Syrians flee the country every day-most of them traumatized children under the age of 11. Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, and Egypt are the most popular destinations for refugees.  Read more at the BBC.
